Amber Frazer and Grant Edenfield received their American Degrees when the Mowrystown FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 20-23.

Highland County witnessed its first snow of the 2010 fall season Friday morning, Nov. 5, as a few flakes could be seen on the courthouse lawn.

Danny Collins was a friend and one of the most honest and straightforward individuals I've ever known. If he had something to say to you, he said it to you. He didn't say it behind your back. He looked you in the eye and said what was on his mind. His dad was the same way. And I liked them both.

Highland County Commissioners  Gary Heaton, Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst this week proclaimed the month of November 2010 as National Family Caregivers Month and encouraged all Highland County citizens to pay tribute to those who provide care for their family members, friends, and neighbors in need.

“With Rob Portman’s victory, the voters in Ohio sent a clear and resounding message, calling for a robust defense of the American free enterprise system."

Local Ohio State University Extension supporters are working hard to keep the 4-H youth development, agriculture/natural recourses and family consumer sciences programs alive for the coming years. In an effort to raise money for the Ohio State University Extension of Highland County, including the 4-H program, Jerry Haag Motors is hosting a test-drive event on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Payroll corrections for Highland County elected officials will be made this week, Highland County Commissioner Tom Horst said at the Wednesday, Oct. 27 commission meeting.

In an effort to increase the capacity within the county's non-profit organizations, the Highland County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring an all-day workshop, "Back to Basics - Make Your Non-Profit Stronger," on Friday, Nov. 12.
