  • Commissioners, auditor discuss GAAP conversion, sales tax
    Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Tom Horst and Jeremy Shaffer met with Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley during their Wednesday, Jan. 16 board meeting to go over the county’s conversion from a cash basis to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) as required by the state.
  • Ohio sees record level of liquor sales
    The Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Liquor Control announced that dollar sales of spirituous liquor reached a record level in 2012, totaling $849 million. This was an increase of 7%, exceeding last year’s total by $55.3 million.
  • OVRDC county caucus Jan. 30
    The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) will hold its annual county caucus reorganization meeting for Highland County on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners' office of the Administration Building.
  • Rosenberger appointed as chairman of House Finance Committee's Sub-Committee of Higher Education
    Rosenberger’s duties will include chairing the House Finance Committee’s Sub-Committee for Higher Education while serving as a member of Finance Committee, Public Utilities, Military and Veterans Affairs. New for this General Assembly, he will be one of three house members chosen to sit on the Controlling Board, the appropriations advisory and review board.
  • Highland County under winter weather advisory
    A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 to Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Affected counties include Adams, Brown, Clermont, Highland, Pike, Ross and Scioto.

    Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Senate Armed Service Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) and Senate Armed Service Committee Ranking Member John McCain (R-Ariz.) have sent two letters to Acting CIA Director Michael Morell seeking information provided to the filmmakers of the film "Zero Dark Thirty" and clarification of comments made to CIA employees related to the use of coercive interrogation techniques on CIA detainees.

    Highland County commissioners Shane Wilkin and Tom Horst approved two personnel proposals from Highland County Court (Madison Township) Judge Robert Judkins during the Wednesday, Jan. 9 board meeting. Although not mandated by state law, Judge Judkins requested commissioners' approval for a new court administrative clerk, Monica George, and deputy clerk, Michelle Hatch.
