Numbers don't support 'recovery'
Summer won’t be over until Sept. 23. Labor Day is next week, and kids are back in school. High school football is in full swing, and the Buckeyes have their first game under their belt. But we still have a solid three weeks of summer left on the calendar. But it doesn’t matter when one thinks summer ends. It’s pretty clear that “Recovery Summer,” brought to you by an endless diatribe by Barack Obama and Joe Biden, is going to end up as a “Recovery Bummer.”

Let New York decide mosque issue
It should be kept that way, and politicians from Alaska to the White House should let the thing be resolved without further debate.

Maybe we can learn from Canada
It is really hard to find anybody who seems upbeat about America’s economic outlook – particularly in this area where unemployment hasn’t been as high as it is now since the Great Depression. Nor has the high unemployment lasted as long as it has since the 1930s.

Do we continue in Afghanistan?
At this point, just let the politicians who created the mess clean it up. It was once a just war that started on Sept. 12, 2001. It now seems to be nothing more than an inconvenience. Our politicians have bigger fish to fry now and they need dollars to spend to appease potential voters.

Midseason budget review not so hot
In case you missed it a couple Fridays ago, the White House released the Obama administration’s midseason budget review.  There was a reason it was released late on a Friday afternoon. It’s called a “news dump” because people are more interested in talking about their weekend plans than talking about politics.

Auditor explains city's financial dilemma
As auditor, I serve as the city’s chief financial officer. When I say the city has a financial problem, you can take it to the bank that the city has a problem. But you don’t have to take my word for it when I sound the alarm. You can check the numbers yourself. They’re public record...

Freedom of religion or worship?
Words mean things. Whether we talk of illegal aliens as being undocumented immigrants, or if we try to use a politically correct term in place of what we all know to be the obvious, words mean things. Unfortunately, there are times when people make an ever-so-slight change in the words they use in order to deceive people.

In support of the Second Amendment
Although many Americans do not keep and bear arms, far more do than those who speak out on controversial issues or who join churches. Perhaps most significant is the fact that all Americans derive benefit from having a large percentage of people who keep and bear arms in their midst.

Thus far, it's been a very slow recovery
For quite some time now, economic indicators have shown that things are looking up in our economy. The problem is, we don’t seem to be feeling it. Particularly in this area, there hasn’t been such a high level of economic funkiness since the late 1970s.

Is the oil spill Obama's hostage crisis?
For those of you who remember the Iran Hostage Crisis that started in 1979 and haunted President Carter for the remainder of his presidency, you'll recall that it was not a good time for America. For those of you who are not familiar with the episode, the following is a brief synopsis of what occurred.
