It was brought to the attention of The Highland County Press on Thursday, Oct. 12 that a politically motivated flier was illegally inserted into copies of the Oct. 7 edition of The Highland County Press at the Flagway gas station on East Main Street in Hillsboro.

A flier containing a potentially disparaging public notice from a 2008 incident – that was dismissed – on one of the Liberty Township trustee candidates was inserted into copies of the Oct. 7 edition.

This was not a paid advertisement by any candidate in the newspaper. The person or persons who did this tampered with the newspapers in question.

Also, last week The Highland County Press alerted the manager of Community Markets on West Main Street in Hillsboro that all copies of the Oct. 7 edition had been removed from the store.

It is possible that the person who removed the Oct. 7 papers from Community Markets later placed the flier into other copies for illegal distribution.

The Highland County Press has a copy of the flier in question and has removed the newspapers from Flagway.

The incident has been reported to the managers of both stores and will be reported to the Hillsboro Police Department.
