With three weeks remaining before the filing deadline, seven local individuals have taken out petitions for the May 6 primary election, according to Highland County Board of Elections administrator Steve Witham.
The filing deadline for the primary is Feb. 5.
A contested primary race will be the Highland County Sheriff position. Republican Richard Warner, who was appointed Highland County Sheriff in November, has taken out petitions to run for sheriff, along with longtime Highland County Sheriff's Office sergeant Donnie Barrera, also a Republican.
Cliff Rosenberger, a Republican, will seek reelection as state representative of Ohio House District 91.
Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss, a Democrat, and Highland County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Kevin Greer, a Republican, are also seeking reelection.
Longtime Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley has also taken out petitions. Fawley is a Republican.
Highland County Republican Central Committee Roger Ruggles, who currently serves the Paint SW precinct, has taken out petitions for reelection to the committee. Both Highland County Republican and Democratic Central Committee members will be on the 2014 ballot.
The 2014 election will also include one Highland County Commissioner seat, along with state races, including Ohio Governor, Senate, Supreme Court, Secretary of State and other offices.
