The Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 has announce a memorial highway dedication for U.S. Army PFC Neil R. Scott. Born in Hillsboro in 1932, Scott died while a prisoner of war on Jan. 5, 1951 in Korea. Scott was a medic with the Medical Company, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division.

    U.S. Sens. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) urged President Donald Trump to reconsider proposed cuts to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) in his budget blueprint. ARC supports Ohio and twelve other states across Appalachia to stimulate local economies, provide job training, expand broadband access in rural areas, and support local infrastructure needs.

    Highland County Commissioners Shane Wilkin, Jeff Duncan and Terry Britton proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month during their March 29 meeting. Commissioners also passed a resolution urging state legislators to "take immediate action as part of the Medicaid Managed Care Organization sales tax revenue."

    Director Loretta Flora led the cast and crew of the March 24-25 McClain High School musical “The Wizard of Oz.” This MHS version combined elements from the beloved musical and book. While following the story line of the MGM musical, there were several surprises for audiences on Friday and Saturday.

    Highland County submitted its petition to the newly formed Ohio Soil Conservation Committee on March 25 1942. Seventy-two residents attended that hearing, supporting the formation of a district in Highland County. That petition being accepted, Highland County held the first required public referendum on April 18, 1942.
